Blog: analysis of photo

The author, Polixeni Papapetrou uses outdoor as her theme for this particular photo that she took. The photo is taken place outdoors in the woods in autumn. This setting gave the picture its green background that comes from the leaves of branches, twigs, and bushes. In addition, the brown ground that comes from all the wooden chips and pieces that the girls sits and lays on. Right in the center of the photo is an enormous tree trunk which the girls have positioned themselves in front of therefore this allowed the audience to easily pinpoint the focal point. The author used two girls of near the same age to signify friendship. Both of which are out in the woods together and far from any signs of human existence, they are young and innocent; this signify vulnerability of young female and the danger that are out in the world. The author has chosen to have the girls wear neutral colors of white, tan, and brown. The neutral colors gave the girls a earth-tone look as though they are apart of their environment. The photo seemed a little dim with little sun-light giving the audience reasons to believe that the sun is about to set.

I believe the persuasive statement that this image conveys is that you must always cherish your friendship. That friends must always stick together and watch-out for each other such as in the case of the image. We rely on each other for survival. With each other we have higher chances of over-coming situations such as getting lost in the woods.

I think you wrote a great analysis on this photograph. Your analysis made me think about what this picture truly signifies and I definitely agree with you. Woman are a already more vulnerable than men and being younger, like these two girls, represents this idea of vulnerability more evident. I also think that the two girls represent friendship because it seems they have a bond by the they are positioned. One girl is on the other's lap which signifies that there is trust between them. These two young girls are the focal point of the photograph, I believe. I really liked this picture's earthy and natural feel to it, it just makes nature look that much beautiful.

I never considered vulnerability a part of this photo, but you're right. The photographer must have chosen to take a picture of little girls because they are seen as more defenseless than boys. Maybe the photographer was trying to make a statement about how vulnerable you must make yourself in order to have meaningful relationships. You must trust someone else with your heart, and it is quite possible that you could end up being hurt. Good analysis.

I completely agree that this image portrays friendship or relationship. The relationship of connection is not only between the girls but between the girls and the earth. I would have never even thought about the fact that the two girls are about the same age, which now that I see that I can see how important it is to the meaning of the image. You did a great job and really made me think.
